Around Town Scrapbook #54: local newspaperS & Whittier Biography: In this segment, the introduction included a short history: The Guardian Of Freedom (Haverhill's 1st paper), the Haverhill Gazette, Tri-Weekly Publisher, the Essex Banner & Essex County Democrat. Of course any growing up in Haverhill in the 1960's will remember the Haverhill Journal and of course more recently the Eagle Tribune. former curator Renee Harlow gives us a short history on the Whiitier Family & the Homestead/Birthplace of Poet John Greenleaf Whittier. (2002) Richard Noyes was a local historian and author. He co-wrote the book (with Howard E. Turner) known as Edge of Megalopolis: A History of Salem NH 1900 - 1974. He was also Publisher & Editor of the community newspaper known as Salem Observer (prior owner Bob Finney).
